Trailer Safety Inspections
Make sure your trailer is safe to tow
At Golden Gait Trailers we offer Safety Inspections for trailers. We want you to be safe on the road and make sure that you are following NC laws to avoid a ticket. Safety Inspections are great ways to make sure that you trailer is up for a short trip or long trip. Our safety inspections are very thorough and we will make sure your trailer is safe to tow. 20-183.2. Description of vehicles subject to safety or emissions inspection; definitions:
- Safety – A motor vehicle is subject to a safety inspection in accordance with this Part if it meets all of the following requirements:
- It is subject to registration with the Division under Article 3 of this Chapter.
- It is not subject to inspection under 49 C.F.R. Part 396, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
- It is not a trailer whose gross weight is less than 4,000 pounds or a house trailer.
- Safety Inspection Exceptions – The following vehicles shall not be subject to a safety inspection pursuant to this article:
- Historic Vehicles, as defined in G.S. 20-79.4(b)(55).
- Buses titled to a local board of education and subject to the school bus inspection requirements specified by the State Board of Education and G.S. 115C-248(a).

We also follow all Federal Inspection Laws as well such as: brake system, coupling devices, exhaust system, fuel system, lighting, devices, safe loading, steering mechanism, suspension, frame, tires, wheels and rims, windshield glazing, windshield wipers, and other items. The Federal Inspection report is an in-depth report that we make sure to check on our trailers and motorhomes and toterhomes.
